Leadership Strategies to LOVE Your Work and Bring ENERGY to Your Team

Leadership Strategies to LOVE Your Work and Bring ENERGY to Your Team

excitement

Hi Ya’ll, Jennifer Ledet here with another installment of Leadership Lagniappe, where I offer quick tips for leaders who want to live and lead by design rather than default.

Let me be clear. When I talk about leadership, I’m talking to everyone in this, well, virtual room.

Because a leader is anyone in a position to influence another person. This might be a

  • CEO, VP
  • director, manager or supervisor, OR
  • sales professional
  • healthcare worker
  • volunteer
  • or an association member

Leadership is not a title, it’s a behavior.

Being a leader is about how you show up for people – at work, on your team and in your family, and with friends. I want you to notice the ENERGY that you bring to your work and to your life circumstances. You know, sometimes I think the only Energy Crisis in this country is WITHIN our organizations.

Oh, I know you’ve got situations. You’ve got problems and issues. And maybe you feel like I did after Hurricane Ida…  Like where do I even begin? Believe me, I do a LOT of coaching and teaching around leadership communication. It’s important. No doubt about it.  But mayhaps even MORE important than what you say or what you do is the ENERGY you bring to the situation that makes the biggest difference!

And trust me, if you talk to your team like Ben Stein on Ferris Beuller’s Day Off – they are FEELING your complete LACK of energy! The thing is, people are looking to you for guidance, to lead the way. Just like if you’re on a commercial flight and you experience turbulence. If the flight attendant is freaking out, passengers will likely follow suit. Team members are watching you and will mirror your attitude.

So what can you do to make 2022 different… dare I say better?

Ya’ll I know this is going to sound really really radical, but I want you to FALL IN LOVE  with your work again! Remember what it was that drew you to this work in the first place. Get in touch with your bigger purpose – your WHY. When I focus on my work, my clients, learning and developing in my area of expertise, embodying my work…. when that’s the focus, I am inspired to build my business and to draw my clients in.

When I focus on what ENERGIZES me about my work according to my personal values, the JOY will come. When I LOVE my work, I do all the things I already know how to do to create success!

So looking at the next quarter and the rest of the year ahead… Instead of JUST setting goals and metrics…. I want you to create…. An EXCITEMENT LIST! What are you excited about for the coming year? This will be a list of the things you want to focus on. Ya’ll it’s so easy to sell something that you’re passionately in love with. It’s so much easier to influence behavior to get buy-in from your teams, customers, and stakeholders when YOU’RE EXCITED! And enthusiastic about it. Set your goals based on excitement and joy and creativity.
