The More You Stress the Roots, the Better the Fruit

On our recent trip to Greece, we were fortunate to enjoy a couple of days of wine tasting. And believe me, we liked them all – so much so that we had to buy a new suitcase to carry home all the bottles of wine and olive oil that we bought!

But that’s not really what I wanted to share with you. For our wine-tasting tours, we were so lucky to have a guide, Savvas, who’s on the last step of working to attain the certification of Master Sommelier. He was incredible.

BTW, I also shared with him that we are not wine aficionados. We are wine enthusiasts. But I digress.

We learned that it is very dry and even arid in Greece, and specifically Santorini, which is known for its Assyrtiko wines. And these vineyards do not irrigate their grapes. I asked if these dry, almost drought-like conditions weren’t harmful to the plants.

In fact, Savvas explained that the more you stress the roots, the better the fruit.

Huh. His words stuck with me and I’ve been thinking about how this is true in growing grapes and in life.

As I’ve been having conversations with lots of women in mid-career, mid-life and beyond, it seems that everyone is going through something. I call it the Messy Middle.

It’s tough, it’s challenging, you’re having to dig deep.

But what if those challenges in your life, though we didn’t ask for them, were making you stronger, were making you better? Like the grapes, the more you stress the roots, the better the fruit. And I’m willing to bet that you’re stronger than you give yourself credit for. Like me, you know you can do hard things because you’ve done them. Heck, you got the t-shirt, shot glass, and scars to prove it!

But listen, your mid-career, mid-life doesn’t have to be messy! I’m a big believer in NOT trying to muscle my way through things or operate in a vacuum. Besides, it’s so much more fun to go – and grow – through things with some gal pals who have your back, don’t you agree?

If you agree, join me for my new program launching in January, tentatively called “Flourish,” which will be a virtual community for women in midlife/mid-career and beyond. In Flourish you’ll have the space and grace to both reflect and set intentions for how you want to live and lead in this season and stage of life. Because you get to choose!

I’ll be your guide on the side and we’ll all get the benefit of insights, fresh perspectives from the group and ah-hahs!, and oh wows!

If you’d like to receive all the details, simply email me at Jennifer@JenniferLedet.com and say “Put me on the list!” There’s no obligation, I’ll let you know the details once I’ve mapped them out.

One thing I do know is that if you join in January as a founder, you’ll be grandfathered in at the founder’s rate for as long as you continuously remain a member.

I look forward to hearing from you soon – don’t delay!

Until next time, remember to live and lead by choice, not by chance.
